Found In the Pasturage

Additional to the three seen yesterday were six deer enjoying the solitude in the pasture during the absence of the sheep (the unofficial sheep are still there). Out in the open it's impossible to get close to them even when favourably downwind. They were off at some speed as soon as my head appeared above the slope. The contrast is with the three yesterday who allowed us to get very close (see yesterday's posts). The nearness of woodland into which they can disappear makes all the difference.

Some old puffballs were on the grassy north slopes where wind had taken them. But the new fungi I've completely failed to identify. It has brown cap and grey black gills. Even after browsing three reference books I can't find a good match.
