Gender Separation

The two hinds were browsing on the south side of Blacka Hill at 6.30 while the group of stags could just be seen beside the woods nearer to Hathersage Road. They were probably busy feeding in the firebreak.

One of the hinds is still much smaller and is probably less than a year old. It is likely that the older hind will be calving within weeks. Hinds have longer heads than the stags and more erect ears.
