Wild Trees

Unable to get out yesterday due to the choice made to live at the bottom of a hill which also happens to be a cul de sac, it was a pleasure to get to Blacka this morning.

The usual thing after a fall of snow is that it only stays briefly on the trees. A bit of wind and a rise in temperature soon dislodges the snow. This time it was different. Not just a major fall but the air remained still and neither a lot colder or a lot warmer for more than a day. This is a big bonus to the scenery.

And the best scenes are where it's been least managed and allowed to go a bit wild. These days the conservation lobby are everywhere. "It must be managed" they say about the heathland and moorland. "It must be managed" they say about the woodland. Just ask yourself in whose interest these statements are made and they will fall into perspective. Then look at the beauty of wild land and trees under snow.

But keep a wary eye over your shoulder lest a manager with a chain saw and clippers appears with time on his hands.
