Maternal Responsibilities


No sooner is she back with her new calf than the senior hind is the protective focus for all the immature deer. Her size is as noticeable as her sense of responsibility. Suddenly those yearlings look small again. This morning she was particularly irritated as they were caught unawares. Once she realised they were not alone she gave vent to a loud angry bark.
